Karin Sander

The internationally acclaimed artist Karin Sander was born in the German town of Bensberg in 1957 and is now based in Stuttgart and in Berlin, where she is professor at the KHB Kunsthochschule, Berlin-Weissensee. Her conceptually orientated work addresses architectural, urban and social issues, with a focus on the material qualities of the spaces involved. The aesthetic criteria underlying Sander's work are elegance and a simplicity so rigorous that it often approaches the limits of perception. In 1994 she created her own space in the Museum of Modern Art, New York, by linking the court and entrance hall by means of two segments of artificial grass measuring 24 by 15.8 metres.
